Too good to be true?

China starts its thorium reactor program

The thing is it sounds TOO good to be true... and you know what people say about things which are too good to be true.

Since I am not really a scientist and much of it went over my head, I can't hope to poke holes in it any body care to poke holes in it, esp the HPC crowd?

  2. If Uranium was the stone age of nuclear energy, Thorium is the Bronze age. I don't know the specifics, but Thorium is supposedly safer than Uranium because it cannot be weaponized and is not prone to meltdown. It is also much more efficient, the US alone has enough Thorium to meet its energy needs for the next 1000 years. The earths Thorium reserves can create more energy than all fossil and other nuclear fuels combined. If China puts enough effort into this, their electric grid could be off coal within decades.

Obama says clean energy is our sputnik moment, too bad China has already landed on the moon.
